After our little adventure at NTU, we proceeded to take the train to our next lunching destination.
From Gongguan station, we took the MRT to Taipei Main Station, then transited to take the Bannan Line to Zhongxiao Dunhua station.
Some places of interest at/near Taipei Main station! There are so many familiar names here.
We never fail to enter this shop whenever we see it in Taipei. They have lots of outlets, and seemed to enjoy good business everywhere! This concept is definitely not new in Singapore's retail scene. We have one right in Marina Square!
This is what you will see when you exit from Zhongxiao Dunhua MRT station (I forgot which exit we took though). Along the way, we had to approach several people to ask them for directions. I have to emphasize here, that Taiwanese are really a bunch of friendly and helpful people!
Just walk straight when you exit from the MRT station and cross this road.
You will walk pass this building (Eslite Dunnan store), turn left at the turnabout and walk straight.
Cross the road at this traffic light junction, then turn left and walk straight.
See the signage that says Anhe Rd Sec.1? We are nearing our destination soon!
And there we are, with the big 满堂红 signage welcoming us! Once you are directly below this signage, turn to your right and the shop is just a few shopfronts away.
Man Tang Hong is a steamboat place which is very famous for its spicy hotpot! CC saw many good reviews online, and insisted that we have to try it out! I think this shop was also featured as one of the good steamboat place in Taiwan on 康熙来了.
Heard that this restaurant requires reservations, as it is always very crowded! So the day before, CC checked with the hotel receptionist, if she could call to reserve the seats for us, and thankfully she did! The slot given to us was the 1.30pm slot. Upon arriving at the table, we were told that the last order for food was 3pm.
The Yuan Yang pot; on the left side is our 酸菜 soup base, while on the right is their famous spicy hotpot. We actually had some soup bases to choose from, but decided on the 酸菜 pot, since this sounds more politically edible, and sour flavour is totally my thing! One of soup bases is 牛奶味噌(Milk Miso pot), so you decide.
Like many buffet restaurants in Singapore, we also had a list of food items to choose from.
The best thing about this restaurant is that, their food items are all really fresh! Coupled with the fact that they are not stingy with the more expensive food items, such as prawns and fish slices. And hell, we even had a plate of live clams given to us! (and to which we decided to return to them after seeing that they were still breathing)
They also serve squid and prawn paste inside a bamboo tube, that was a really novel experience for me! We can make our own prawn and squid balls by squeezing the desired size into the soup! And to top it off, they were super fresh and yummy too! :)
They are also famed for their top-grade Angus beef.
Our boiling pot.
Here, they also serve Haagen Daz and Meiji ice-cream (buffet-style)!!!! So dessert fans, look forward to the end of your meal! ;) After a very very full-meal, me and CC were caught staring into space!
CC with her favourite Haagen Daz ice-cream cone! :) I believe she must be the most satisfied eater among us since she got her share of spiciness and the Angus beef.
An almost empty restaurant at around 3pm. Most diners have left by then. We also asked for advice from the service staff on how to go to our next destination (Wu Fen Pu)!
All in all, I think I enjoyed eating at this restaurant, given the freshness of the food, the comfortable, spacious environment and the attentiveness of the service staff. For our bill, each of us paid NTD439~SGD19.10 after the service charge.
So will I visit this restaurant again? Yes, probably, if I do visit Taipei with my parents, or when the situation calls for a proper meal :)
