Earlier on at work, a teenage boy around 15-16 years old, holding a piece of Singapore map, came to my counter. He was trying to put across something to me, I could see that he was struggling with his words, because he was not a local. He couldn't speak fluent English.
After my countless requests of asking him to repeat what he's saying, I finally figured out what he was trying to say. Guess what he wanted? All he wanted, was to tell me that, he wants to put the map back into the map holder, but "there's no more gap" (as the holder was just freshly refilled), so he wanted to return the map to me. This alone took him 5 minutes, standing in front of my counter, cracking his head, trying to explain "the situation" to me.
After he went off, I smiled to myself. How long has it been, since something so pure and simple occured to me? I haven't seen something like that for too long.
The thing is, the boy could have just put it on the table, or throw it away into the bin. However, he did not, he chose to pass it back to me.
I am not sure how you guys feel about this. Could be something very insignificant for you. But for me, it was definitely an episode very unforgettable.
Kindness. Pureness. Simplicity. Innocence. These are all that I can think of right now.
I hope the boy grows up to be a very fine man. He deserves to be one.
