The dolphins aren't smiling, they are suffering.

Sorry that I haven't been updating for the past few weeks. I broke my promise stated in the last post.

Something worth mentioning this week would probably be the dialogue session with Mr Rick O' Barry on Tuesday. I went to this event after my work on Tuesday. I almost got lost trying to look for Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel! That's when I realised I should really get myself a smart phone, or at least a data plan.

This dialogue session was held by ACRES (Animal Concerns Research & Education Society) and kindly sponsored by Grand Copthorne. The topic discussed that night was none other than the RWS dolphin captivity issue. Mr Rick O' Barry was a former dolphin-catcher turned animal activist. I believe that, other than to participate in this dialogue session, his main motive here in Singapore was to convince the RWS management to let the remaining 25 dolphins go before the largest maritime aquarium in the world opens in RWS next year. Although RWS still hasn't give a positive reply to the plead of him and 680 000 others, I don't think that the effort made by these people will be in vain, because I believe that many people, including those who haven't heard of this saga would have realised the seriosity of the captivity of dolphins by now. And the pressure given by the public, animal welfare groups, and animal activists from all around the world will eventually be too much for RWS to take. So, hopefully by then, the dolphins will be released back into the wild!

This dialogue session was definitely a very meaningful one. Listening to other people (especially people of my age), open up on their views on this issue, and knowing that so many others care for these animals. Seriously, before I went for this dialogue session, I didn't even realised that the plead for RWS to let the dolphins go, has already gained such a significant amount of international support. Until they played this video.

Like what Rick said in this video, RWS do not need these dolphins as ornamental decorations, for they are already making billions for profit each year.

Look at this picture with the giant MasterCard. It all started when Mastercard decided to hold promotions in conjunction with the Marine Life Park. This really got on the nerves of many people, most of which whom have shown their anger and "threat" towards this company. In the dialogue session, Rick mentioned that he wanted to cut up this giant Mastercard. However, he then added on something, which immediately lead to the cheers of the audience (including me)! He mentioned that, Mastercard has decided to cut off any promotional relationships with the Marine Life Park. So, as evident in this situation, pressure from the public matters.
